Who is EDMICU?

We are a collective of educational leaders, researchers, mental health professionals, activists, seekers who have banded together to support the work in a variety of ways from academics to well-being to leadership and a host of other topics. Each member brings several areas of expertise, and offerings are customized to support the unique contexts of your work.

Our Experts

  • Antonia Issa Lahera

    Dr. Antonia Issa Lahera has worked in highly innovative settings as the director of leadership programs, leader of a reconstituted and alternative schools. She is the author of numerous book chapters, peer reviewed articles, and books on social justice, transformative leadership, and equity.

  • Abdul Issa

    Abdul Issa has an extensive background in leadership in charter schools. His professional experience spans administration, dean, and special education teacher. Abdul's specialties and passions lie in social justice, equity, school culture, trauma informed practice, leading with your heart, and self care.

  • Orletta Nguyen

    Dr. Orletta Nguyen has an extensive background in K-12 teaching and learning in special education, general education, and school psychology. Her specialities and passions lie in quality instruction, behavior intervention, special education issues, equity, school culture, and mental health.

  • Kendall Zoller

    Dr. Kendall Zoller is an international presenter, authority on communicative intelligence, author and co-author of publications focusing on identifying nonverbal patterns in the learning environment and their influences on thinking, memory, and learning.

  • Jose Navarro

    Jose Navarro has spent his life in service to the communities he serves. As a Peace Corps volunteer, hot shot firefighter, he has worked relentlessly for equity, justice and peace for all. As a humanistic leader he founded the award winning and innovative Social Justice Humanitas with a group of fellow teachers. As a teacher he was recognized and awarded Teacher of the Year by more than one agency and as a leader he has been asked to present all over the country. Jose continues to lead, tackle racism, bring harmony and support to marginalized communities and make a difference every day.

  • Cynthia Gonzales

    Dr. Cynthia Gonzalez is a high school principal who has been in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 17 years. As a former teacher and English Language coordinator, she has a variety of experience with systems and the system's impact on students. Dr. Gonzalez believes that an effective system is a system where all students are thriving. To that end, she works tirelessly to create and implement those systems.

  • Doron Zinger

    Dr. Doron Zinger is an educator focused on learning, teaching, and improving teacher preparation and classroom instruction in science, especially in underserved communities where students don't experience science as many other students do.

  • Horacio Rodriguez

    Horacio Rodriguez has worked as a clinical social worker in community mental health, non-profit, and school settings. Horacio has experience supporting students and families in crisis, supporting parents with restorative parenting practices, and equipping educators to implement trauma informed and culturally responsive approaches. His passion lies in helping children, youth, families, and communities tap into their innate ability for resiliency.

  • Dr. Roberta Benjamin

    Dr. Roberta Benjamin Edwards iscurrentlya Professor of School Leadership at California State University Dominguez Hills. She is a retired teacher and administrator from Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Additionally, she wasthe former superintendent of Aspire Public Schools of Los Angeles for six years.
